Ontario Climbing Federation appoints Nathan Abdelnour as new Executive Director

The Ontario Climbing Federation’s Board of Directors is very pleased to announce the appointment of Nathan Abdelnour as the organization’s first Executive Director following a comprehensive search.

Nathan joins the OCF following several years as a professional sport administrator. Beginning at Rugby Canada as the Manager, Match Official Development, and culminating in Executive Director experience at both Dive Ontario and Rugby Québec, his expertise in the Ontario and Canadian sport landscape will be an invaluable asset for the OCF as we continue to grow our sport.

“We have had the hiring of an Executive Director in our plans for a few years now and, while the pandemic had put a hold on the process, we could not be happier with Nathan’s hiring. We were fortunate our rigorous process led to an exceptional pool of candidates, and we now welcome Nathan to come in as our new executive leader,” said Maria Richardson, Chair of the Board of Directors with the OCF. “Nathan brings the skill set, character, and leadership we now need to continue to move our wonderful sport forward. We look forward to his engagement within the Ontario climbing community.”

Nathan begins his role immediately, with a sharp focus on transitioning board operational tasks into his portfolio. His experience includes assisting with logistical support at international competitions for all on-field and off-field officiating needs, collaborating with development stakeholders across the country, and seeing the return of in-person activity as we transitioned out of the pandemic.

“I am grateful and humbled to be asked to lead the OCF at this time. The sport is new to the Olympic scene, offering opportunity, but also expectations. I would like to personally thank Maria Richardson and the OCF Board of Directors for placing their faith in me as we look to build upon the strong foundation that currently exists in the organization,” Nathan said. “My experience over the years has been truly unique, and while I am very privileged to be in this position, I am also excited to serve our membership and get stuck into it as we aim to deliver best-in-class events and competitions.”

As the OCF transitions from a volunteer Board to now employ the services of professional staff, we would like to acknowledge the incredible work Davis Barton has committed to the organization over the last 4 years. The operations and execution of our competitions and return to participation following pandemic restrictions would not have been possible without her diligence and time, and we thank her for her exceptional efforts.

As we prepare for our final 2 competitions of the season, the OCF is very excited for Nathan to assist in leading the organization in completing the season and preparing for 2023-24 as soon as possible. Please join us in welcoming him to our family.
