Ontario Climbing Federation Releases Preliminary 2023-24 Competition Schedule
September 24, 2023 (Toronto, ON) – The Ontario Climbing Federation is pleased to announce the beginning of our competition schedule for the 2023-24 competitive season. The preliminary dates this fall are confirmed, and registration for all events will open on Tuesday, October 10 at 12pm.
“We acknowledge this information is coming out much later than we had wanted and has made it difficult for athletes, parents, and coaches to address planning needs over the next few months. However, our tender application process yielded very few options, and resulted in a significant amount of work needed to go into working with our partner gyms to find locations to host,” said Nathan Abdelnour, Executive Director of the OCF. “We anticipate the remaining dates being announced in the coming weeks as we work diligently with gyms across the province to address the needs of our athletes.”
As previously announced, the 2023-24 season will not have any structural changes from last season, focusing on 2 qualifying events for Boulder and Difficulty disciplines, and 1 qualifier for Speed. The OCF will then put on a provincial championship for each discipline in alignment with Climbing Escalade Canada’s Speed Nationals and Youth Boulder and Difficulty Nationals.
“Despite the challenges presented in preparing for the upcoming season to this point, we remain incredibly excited for the events to come. Outside of these three events, we will also have some very important announcements coming out regarding a new Strategic Plan, our upcoming AGM date, and of course the remaining competition dates,” said Maria Richardson, Chair of the OCF Board of Directors. “Now that we have completed some very major long-term work to secure the needs of the OCF for the long-term, we can assure our members that the process to begin planning for the 2024-25 season will also begin in earnest this fall.”
